National Schools North Mayo A Final;

Sun, 02 Jun, Venue: Knockmore, (Final), Knockmore 1-01 Crossmolina Deel Rovers 0-07

Crossmolina National Schools captured the North Mayo National Schools A title after a hard earned two points win over a gallant Knockmore side 0 – 7 to 1 – 2 in a game that was played in terrible conditions with strong wind  and driving rain blowing straight down the field at St Joseph’s Park Knockmore. The hosts played with wind in the opening half and Oisin Langan scored the only goal of the game after two minutes scores were hard to come by with Crossmolina defence on top. Kobe McDonald scored a point from a free and Knockmore replied with one from play to leave half time score 1-1 to 0-1 Crossmolina tacked on two points from Kobe McDonald in the opening ten minutes after the break. Aaron Coggins Oisin Deane and Kobe McDonald had points each to extend the lead out two Luke Maloney pointed a free but Knockmore came back with a point late on to leave just two separating the sides when Referee Pat Dowling blew the final whistle a great contest despite the terrible conditions

Michael Walsh Junior Group 2
Sun, 02 Jun, Venue: Breaffy, (Round 2), Breaffy 1-14 Crossmolina Deel Rovers 1-13

Crossmolina were unfortunate to lose out in this Michael Walsh League in Breaffy after leading throughout. A Declan Toner goal and a point in the final minutes secured the points after a well contested game played in windy conditions. Crossmolina held the upper hand in the opening half thanks to a string of points from Robert Murphy Conor Caden Shane McKinley and Declan Gilroy and Edward Gough goal in the 26th minute. Ben Murphy was most effective for Breaffy kicking some lovely points from play and frees Crossmolina lead by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. Edward Gough tacked on a point in the 32 minuet and it was fourteen minutes before J.P. Mulhern struck over two points for the visitors in as many minuets Ben Murphy kept the Breaffy scoreboard ticking over. With further points from Patrick Loftus Robert Murphy Ronan McDermott and a Shane McKinley free it looked like securing the points for the Deel-Siders until Declan Toner late strike

All Ireland Masters Cup naming in honour of our own Dr. Ml. Loftus.

The trophy for the All-Ireland Masters football champions will be called the Dr Mick Loftus Cup for now on.

The former GAA president was a founder of, and a driving force, behind the provision of the football championship for Gaelic footballers of 40 years and older. The championship has been officially sanctioned by the GAA for the first time in a decade this year after the Gaelic Masters Association put in place the insurance cover required to allow them to use GAA facilities.

The Gaelic Masters Association is hosting a celebration of Dr Mick's contribution to the Masters, the GAA and Irish life in general in his home club of Crossmolina Deel Rovers, Co. Mayo last Saturday, June 8th  at 7pm.

Thank you to all who attended and helped make the evening such a great success.
