This year a total of Fifty six U-10 & U-12 girls took part in training sessions and played matches under the guidance of Patricia Melvin, Peter Mangan, and John Hegarty.
The Mayo U-12 league matches started in late July. This team had a great attitude from the start and never gave up even when games appeared to be lost. Probably the most memorable game of the year was against Kilmoremoy in Crossmolina which was a ding dong battle. The U-12's won all but one of their matches and qualified for the âA' semi-final against St. Marys.
The semi final was fixed for Aughamore on a Wednesday evening and this meant the girls of Deel Rovers, who had won all their matches to date, would be without the majority of their supporters..
The first score went to Crossmolina but by the end of the first half St Marys were 4-6 to 2-1 ahead, The second half was more reflective of what the contest could have been as the Crossmolina girls matched the pace and physicality of the home team. St Marys added 2-3 in the second half to Crossmolinas 2-1.
This was a great achievement for the U-12 squad and they had a very successful 2007 season. The county final win still eludes us however.
The U-12 squad Kate Dever, Grainne Gallagher, Sinead Fergus, Aishling Deane, Maria O'Donnell, Amy Browne, Rachel Melvin, Marie Larkin, Carol Fair, Rachel Kearns, Shauna Carolan, Colleen Barrett, Danielle Kelly, Rebecca Maughen, Sarah Corcoran, Kate Dolan, Laura Fergus, Michelle Kearns, Ann Marie Gill, Nicola Judge, Sharon Granahan, Ciara Garrett, Grainne Jordan, Grace Tolan, Caoimhe Walshe, Megan Quinn, and the unfortunately injured Niamh Barrett.
The U-10 girls had a great season and took part in 3 county blitz's and 2 challenge games against Claregalway, They won 9 of their 10 games, the only loss was at home to Claregalway.
The following girls were part of the 2007 U-10 squad Rachel Gallagher, Grace McAndrew, Rachel Kearns, Clara Loftus, Karen Hegarty, Emma Judge, Stacy Mangan, Amy Traynor, Erris McAndrew, Jacinta Kelly,, Aoife Hegarty, Isabelle Connor, Madeline Keane, Elaine Ormsby, Tara Ryan, Niamh Gallagher, Imelda Loftus, Niamh Larkin, Aishling Tolan, Caoimhe Cosgrove, Niamh Lynn, Samantha McDonnell, Clodagh Fox, Sharon Walshe, Clodagh Syron, Laura Gill, Niamh Larkin, Sinead o'Donnell, Haley Padden & Ruth Queenan.
The club hosted two teams from Claregalway in August, The traveling team and mentors were very impressed by the hospitality shown to them and were loud in their praises for the brilliant facilities built by Crossmolina GAA.
The season finished with a trip to Claregalway to play the return fixture against their U-10's & U-12's, 40 children and 8 adults made the trip. The Claregalway club were brilliant hosts and all who attended were well looked after. Hopefully this will be an annual event for the U-10 & U-12 girls
All involved with the U-12s & U-10s wish to thank Team sponsor Tommy Dolan of Dolan Stainless for his continued support and also Dara Quinn of Quinns Chemist . To all the girls who turned out for training and took part in the matches throughout the year, a special thank you.
