McHale Rovers Ladies GAA report for 2013

"Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh siad." (Young people learn more from compliments than criticism).

Highlights for 2013 included representatives on the county U16 team, minor team and U15 Development squad. They were Samantha McDonnell, Stacy Mangan, Rachel Kearns, Ruth Queenan, Audrey Kane, Avril Noone, Danielle Kelly, Rebecca Maughan, Aoife Hegarty and Madeline Keane. The Junior Team was competitive all year reaching the Junior Championship semifinals and the final of the secondary league. The Minors lost out in the county ‘A’ final to Westport, We struggled at U16 and U14 to be competitive and hope to be graded a division lower for 2014 . The U13’s and U12’s got things together towards the latter end of the season after a ropey start and should acquit themselves better in 2014. It is great to see the consolidation of the amalgamated McHale rovers club is working with strong representation from the feeder parishes of Lahardane, Crossmolina and Ardagh.

The U10’s We did not have enough girls this year to enter an U10 team, they trained and played with the U12’s. Hopefully with the reduction in the affiliation fee and with the great work done by Aiden Heffernan and Billy Loftus they should be in a position to take part in U10 blitz next year.

 

The U12s Played all their games in Div 2, this was a noncompetitive small sided competition and allowed all girls time to play. Crossmolina hosted the U12 county blitz at the end of August when seven teams attended including, Louisburgh, Davitts, Claremorris, Kilmeena, St Mary’s, Achill and Moy Davitts. Louisburgh were the eventual winners with McHaleRovers just missing out on the final by 1 point.

The Club held a ‘Predict The Score’ of the All Ireland Senior final, A big thank you to all who supported and sold the lines. No one guessed correctly but seven predicted a Dublin win and had the Dublin score correct. Each received €30, Winners as follows ; Ita Morrin, Baxter, Sinead Kelly Bofeenaun, Eileen McDonnell Crossmolina, Kieran Lynn Lahardane, Declan Kane Ardagh, Brian Mulhern Ardagh, Mary Butler Ardagh. Best of luck to the Mayo seniors in next year’s final, Keep the faith.

 

Ladies Church Gate collection, a total of €480.27 was contributed.

 

Trying to keep a lid on the cost of running the club is getting increasingly difficult as all the membership collected is paid directly to the County Board (€4,300) this is to cover injury fund membership and affiliation to county, provincial and all Ireland council, Referees at €40 per home game (€1080) and transport (€3,000) all of which has to be raised from parents and the wider community. Without your support it would not be possible to provide this enjoyable activity for our ladies and young girls.
