There was no drama at the end of this replay,
played in ideal weather conditions in James Stephens Park,
Ballina. Ballycastle were clear winners in the end,
but it was not as clear-cut as the score board would
suggest. Crossmolina dominated for long spells in the
opening 30 minutes, Joe Keane and Thomas McNulty flashing over
points which Michael Forde replied with like score inside the
opening 8 minutes. Tommy Walsh waltzed past a couple of
defenders to drill the ball past Jason O’Neill. Martin McAndrew
added a point, Ballycastle came back with points from
Dermot Kelly, Michael Forde and Shane Healy, in between
the Ballycastle goalkeeper Jason O’Neill made two
point blank saves from Niall Timoney and Colm
McDonnell. Crossmolina finished the half with two
points from frees from Thomas McNulty to leave the half time
score 1 – 5 to 0 – 5.
Ballycastle came out after the break
with points from Shane Forde, Fergal Forde and
Dermot Kelly to tie the score after five minutes. Thomas
McNulty and Shane Healy traded points. The decisive score a
goal came minutes later from Anthony Tighe. Martin
McAndrew pulled one point back before John Carey and
Fergal Forde extended their sides advantage with points each.
Mayo Junior player this year Michael Forde stamped his
authority with a goal and two points Thomas McNulty replied
with three points from frees in the final few minutes.
