U8 Morning of Football in the Stephenites Ballina On Sunday the 24th of September we all gathered in the Stephenites Pitch in Ballina for what can only be described as a fantastic morning of football. Along with 5 other clubs, Crossmolina Deelrovers participated in a friendly morning of football. We entered 2 - U8 teams who participated in 5 games each. The skill and talent of our own young boys was unbelievable to watch. The progress they have made throughout the months of training really showed on the pitch yesterday from both teams. What we saw displayed on Sunday is only a shadow of what is to come from this group of boys. Thanks to Ballina Stephenites for the kind invite to a well-run and well organised morning of football. To all the supports who cheered on the boys a big thanks you too.
North Mayo U16 C Championship Tue, 12 Sep, Venue: Knockmore, (Final), Crossmolina Deel Rover 3-06 Bonniconlon 1-06.
Bonniconlon got off to the perfect start with a goal straight from the throw in, with Jack Laurence setting up Aondoin Harrington to score, and minutes later Mark Conlon pointed a free. Bonni were camped in the Crosssmolina half in the opening quarter and it was great credit to all the defenders who worked over time in preventing further scores and poor finishing with number wides in this spell. With the rain pouring down, under foot conditions were very slippery and scores were hard to come by, and it took The Deel-Siders 18 minutes to register their first point from Conor Caden. This followed a couple of bad wides from open play and frees. Edward Gough added another point minutes later but Daniel Ruane pointed from play for Bonniconlon before Conor Caden reduced the lead with another point in the 23rd minute. That was the final score of the half Bonniconlon 1 – 2 Crossmolina 0 – 3. If Bonniconlon got the perfect start in the opening minutes, Crossmolina with a point from Adam Langan, two goals from 14 years old sub Niall Coggins on his birthday after a knock down from James Gill for the first, and in a goal mouth scramble Niall some how squeezed the ball past a couple of helpless defenders and another goal from Adam Langan who grabbed a kick out and shot to the corner of the net from 20m gave Crossmolina a commanding lead which they maintained throughout. Mark Conlon pulled a point back in the 47th minute, which Edward Gough cancelled out, from the kick out Aidan Igoe gave his side further hope with a point, minutes later and Thady Connor who worked so hard throughout drove over the bar from 20m in the 57th minute to give his side a comfortable win in the end. Bonniconlon had their chances in the second half striking the crossbar a couple of shots which were saved by John Tolan Crossmolina Team John Tolan Luke Callaghan Sean Hegarty Brian Hopkins Daniel Howley Patrick McAndrew Lee Carolan Thady Connor 0 – 1 Conor Caden 0 – 2 Adam Langan 1 – 1 Robert Murphy Edward Gough 0 – 2 James Gill Killian Fergus Diarmuid Walsh Subs Niall Coggins 2 – 0 for Killian Fergus Vladimir Gordetskyy for Brian Hopkins Bonniconlon David Moran Conor Dempsey Shane Ferguson James Kelly Niall O’Boyle Lorcan Conlon James Ruane Christian Judge Mark Conlon 0 – 2 Anthony Gallagher Jack Laurence 0 – 1 Daniel Ruane 0 – 1 Enda Conlon Aondoin Harrington 1 – 0 Aidan Igoe Subs Shane Tolan Tony Conlon Conor Pearse Paul Jordan
