Crossmolina Deel Rovers 1-8
A game of two halfs? That will certainly be the thoughts of the many Crossmolina Deelrovers supporters who made the long journey to the south mayo community pitch of Glencorrib.
The Deelrovers account was opened with a point from play on 3 mins by Brian Benson, to cancel out Shrules first score. Eoin Ronaldson added a free which Kieran McDonald quickly equalled from play on 15mins. The Deelrovers opend a two point lead with points from Kieran McDonald, a free from 46m, and Declan Keating from play. Hennelly pulled one back for Shrule in the 22nd minute to leave the scoreline 0-03 to 0-04 in favour of the visitors. The Deelrovers pushed on and points from play by McDonald (22 mins), Mike Gallagher (25mins) and Benson (27mins) pushed them four points to the good. An exquisite 40 yard drop kicked pass by Kieran McDonald found Brian Benson on the 13m line, who worked hard to fend off 2 defenders to find Fionan Duffy with a hand pass which allowed Duffy to finish to the net. Half time score, Shrule Glencorrib 0-03 Crossmolina Deelrovers 1-07.
It took Shrule/Glencorrib 20 minutes to get on the score board in the second half, a point from an Eoin Ronaldson free, and another 2 minuets later. Shane Hennelly drove over a point after piercing run from deep. Sub Ronan Ward who got a lot of possession fired over two long range points from play. And with time running out Mark Ronaldson gained possession out on the left hand side and made his way in along the end line before being up ended by Stephen Duffy who was black carded. Mark Ronaldson dispatched the penalty to the right of the diving Shane Keane to give his side the lead with 60 minutes played. Three minute into injury time after a wide from wing back Shane Mellett for the home side, Declan Keating stepped up to kick over the equalising point to get his side a share of the spoils after game of two halves with very little breeze. It was the introduction of David Geraghty, Ronan Ward and Kieran Walsh, three big strong men who broke Crossmolinaâs strong hold around the middle of the park where the had so a firm grip in the first half.
