It took Ballina all of 10 minutes to open their account with a point from Brendan Murray. Evan Regan grabbed one from play three minutes later. Deelrovers Kevin Mulhern then kicked a great point from 30m. Stephenites Evan Regan ghosted inside the Deel-Siders cover to drill the ball past Colm Reilly to give his side a single point advantage. Stephen Mullen quickly added another for Ballina. Crossmolina who played against the breeze created the greater scoring chances but poor shot selection and good defending denied them at least two good goal scoring chances. It was Peadar Gardiner who took the fight to the Stephenites with two points late in the half to tie the score 0 â 6 to 1 â 3. Early in the second half Brian Benson and Keith Tighe exchanged points. There was a barren spell of twelve minutes until Ryan Keane pointed for Ballina. Fionan Fuffy came off the bench to point a free in the 22nd minute. Kevin Mulhern scored the vital goal in the 24th minute. Keith Hopkins another sub fisted over another point for the Deel siders. Ballina had a couple of bad wides before Evan Regan kicked a great point from play after missing a free from 42 m, the same player pointed another free and Peadar Gardiner had the final say when raced through to fist over his third point of the afternoon. North Mayo U18 A Championship, Rd Semi Final; Crossmolina Deelrovers Vs Belmullet, Friday 5/9/14 @ 6.30pm @ St Tiernans Park Crossmolina Deelrovers 3-17 Belmullet 2-08 Crossmolina raced in to a three points lead in the opening six minutes with points from Fionan Duffy two from play and one free, before Belmullets Niall Cawley opened his sides account in the 15th minute. From the kick out the Bellmullet went straight down the field and Michael Dempsey planted the ball in the net to put side into a two points lead. Fionan Duffy and Gary Hopkins tacked on points to level the score, then Dean Loftus added a point before Fionan Duffy grabbed a vital goal in the 17th minute. Crossmolina spurned some chances for goals before a string of points from Tommy Walsh, Fionan Duffy and Ronan Callaghan. Belmullets Niall Cawley pointed from a free and from play. Mayo minor Eoin OâDonoghue also pointed a free from 43m and Padraig Ginty pointed from play. Two more from the boot of Fionan Duffy left the Half time score 1 â 10 to 1 â 5. Tommy Walsh kicked a point from the restart. Dylan McAndrew gave Belmullet a life line with a goal in the 35th minute. Jonathan Keane then rowed in with a point, but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Having picked up the ball on the halfway line, Keith Hopkins ran straight through the Belmullet defence and cracked home his sides second goal in the 44th minute. Fionan Duffy and Dean Loftus added points, Jordan Flynn cracked an unstoppable shot past Scott Kilker in the 55th minute. Niall Cawley and Eoin OâDonoghue raised white flags for the Erris boys. North Mayo U16 A Championship, Preliminary Rd; Crossmolina Deelrovers Vs Belmullet, Tuesday 2/9/14 @ 6.30pm @ St Tiernans Park Crossmolina Deelrovers 2-13 Belmullet 3-09 Belmullet got off to a lightning start with a goal in the second minute when a shot from Darragh Murray went into the net off a defender. Gary Lynn and Padraig Ruddy exchanged points. Then Marty Boylan pointed a 25m free in the 8th minute. In a great bout of team play Gary Lynn laid on the final pass to Tommy Walsh who drove to the net past Nathan Reilly in the fifteenth minute. A string of points followed form Gary Hopkins, Ronan Lavelle, with one from a free and one from play, Jordan Flynn, Darragh Gill and Gary Hopkins again. Crossmolina were camped in the Belmullet half and Gary Lynn took a pass from Jordan Flynn to give the Deel-Rovers boys a commanding 2 â 7 to 1 â 2 lead after 23 minutes. Two points in the remaining minutes from Marty Boylan and Padraig Ruddy narrowed the gap to six points at the break. Gary Lynn and Marty Boylan traded points minutes into the second half. Ronan Lavelle and Marty Boylan then raised white flags for their teams. Gary Hopkins and Gary Lynn extended the home sides lead with points each. Belmullet came more into game and kept picking off points from Padraig Ruddy and Michael Keane. Then sub Ryan McIntyre gave his a team lifeline when he rose above a couple of defenders to fist the ball to the net past a helpless T.J.McFadden. Marty Boylan reduced the lead to two points before Gary Hopkins grabbed a vital point in the 26th minute. Darragh Murray made a piercing run from 40m to plant the ball in the Crossmolina net to tie the score, the same player was unlucky to see another effort sail wide of the post from the kickout. Jordan Flynn and Jason Lynn combined to snuff out a another attack, Tommy Walsh and Gary Hopkins combined with Niall Maughan to kick the winner from 25m to sent Crossmolina into the semi final of the North Mayo U16 Championship by the slimmest of margin 2 â 13 to 3 â 9 after a very entertaining contest. Crossmolina 1-14 Ardnaree 1-06 Ardnaree came to St Tiernans Park for this North Mayo Minor Championship game played in terrible conditions after a heavy shower of rain made under foot conditions very difficult. It was the visitors who adapted the better in the opening quarter with points from Captain John Eagan and Cathal Noone. Gary Hopkins opened Crossmolinas account in the 15th minute with a point which was quickly followed by another from Dean Loftus. Fionan Duffy rowed in with a point. John Timlin replied for Ardnaree with point in the 21st minute. Further points from Fionan Duffy two and one from Keith Hopkins left the half time score 0 â 6 to 0 â 3. Ardnaree stormed into to game after the break, first John Timlin pointed a free and in the 4th minute, Cathal Noone waltzed his way past a couple of would be defenders to drill the ball to the net and Ardnaree into a one point lead. The lead was cancelled out a minute later when Jordan Flynn pointed a 45. John Timlin and Fionan Duffy traded points, Duffy added two more points from frees. Crossmolina were getting well on top and this reflected on the score board in the last ten minutes. Dean Loftus and Ronan Callaghan registered points, then Dean Loftus finished to the net following good approach work by Tommy Walsh and Jordan Flynn. Gary Hopkins and Fionan Duffy added points each to give the Deel-Siders a rather flattering 1 â 14 to 1 â 6 lead as their was very little between the sides up until the closing minutes. McHale Rovers were defeated by a much more physical Charlestown side in the Mayo Ladys Junior Championship at St Tiernans Park on Saturday week with just two points separating the sides at the break 2 â 1 to 1 â 2 The home sides goal coming from Rachel Kearns. But two goals early in the second half for the East Mayo side from Dayne Doherty and Karena Finn left McHale/Rovers with a mountain to climb.
