Treanlaur Catering Mayo G.A.A. Senior Football Championship - Group 3 Sat, 20 Jun, Venue: Crossmolina , (Round: Round 2), Crossmolina Deel Rovers 2-11 Ballinrobe 3-9 A one point defeat in this round two Mayo Senior football championship tie at St Tiernans Park on Saturday evening has now left the team a very hard away fixture on this Saturday evening against Ballintubber to progress in the Championship. This was game that should have been won after the fine start with two goals and a point from Fionan Duffy after Ballinrobeâs Joe Burke opened the scoring with a point in the opening five minutes. After that explosive five minutes, Ballinrobes Kenneth OâMalley with two points, Dave Killeen and James Quinn, Crossmolinas Stephen Duffy Fionan Duffy and Brian Benson replied with points. Two goals from veteran full forward Ronan Macken gave visitors the advantage but points from Brain Benson and Conor Loftus gave the Deel-siders a one point lead at the break 2 â 6 to 2 â 5. Ballinrobeâs live wire corner forward Peter Walsh grabbed a precious goal two minutes into the second half. Crossmolina responded with five points from Fionan Duffy, Thomas Cafferty, Brian Benson and two from Conor Loftus. Ballinrobe replied with points from James Quinn, Donal Vaughan, Kenneth OâMalley to tie the score entering the final minutes. Up popped wing back Darren McDonnell to kick over lead score for the South Mayo side and to leave the home side to rue the two missed glorious goal scoring chances in the second half. Crossmolina team and scorers Colm Reilly Stephen Duffy 0 â 2 Joe Keane Jonathan OâBoyle Thomas Cafferty 0 - 1 Stephen OâMalley Peadar Gardiner Gabriel Walsh Paul Duffy Sean Kelly Conor Loftus 0 â 3 Kevin Mulhern Brian Benson 0 â 3 James Cafferty Fionan Duffy 2 â 2 Mayo G.A.A. Junior Football Championship - Group 1 Sun, 21 Jun, Venue: Crossmolina , (Round: Round 1), Crossmolina Deel Rovers 0-12 Kilmeena 0-11 Juniors Win Crossmolina edged out Kilmeena by one point in the County Junior Championship at St Tiernans Park on Sunday last. After a close opening 15 minutes Neil Ryan opened Kilmeenas account playing against a stiff breeze. Martin McAndrew quickly replied with a point, Thomas McNulty and Neil Ryan swapped points, Colm McDonnell gave the Deel-Siders the lead which Henry Kelly replied to with a like score. Joe Keane and Darragh Keaveney traded points. Martin McAndrew pushed his side ahead by a point. Kilmeenaâs reply was swift, Neil Ryan and Darragh Keaveney fired over two points each. Ronan Keane and Alan Ryan added points each, With Martin McAndrew and Shane McKinley replying with points each to leave the West Mayo side with four points to the advantage at the break 0 â 10 to 0 â 6. This score line does not tell a true account of the opening 30 minutes, Crossmolina had far greater share of the possession but poor shot selection and a belief that the breeze would guide the ball over the bar saw the home side shoot eleven wides and couple of shots into the goalkeeperâs hands. Few in the large home crowd could see their side turn this lead around considering the breeze freshened up but there is no substitute for hard work and a will to win. Colm McDonnell set the trend in the 32 minute with a point, Joe Keane tacked on two more points and McDonnell again pointed tying up the score in the 46th minute. Further points from Shane McKinley and Colm McDonnell gave the winners a two points advantage with ten minutes still to play. Kilmeena tried their best but every maroon defender stood tall and defended like their lives depended on this result, like Crossmolina in the opening half Kilmeena shot eight wideâs in this half and their only point of the second half came from Paul Groden in the 55th minute. Which now sets up a mouth watering next round tie with high flying neighbours Ardagh Crossmolina team and scorers; Patrick Loftus Barry Murphy Ciaran OâBoyle Noel Hegarty David Howley Kevin Mulhern Dean Loftus Hugh Cafferty John Garrett J.P. U14 Championship 3 - Group A Thu, 18 Jun, Venue: Crossmolina , (Round: Round 2), Crossmolina Deel Rovers 2-11 Breaffy 9-13 Crossmolina were no match for a much stronger Breaffy side in this County U14 Championship tie at Tiernans Park on Thursday last with all six visiting forwards getting on the score board and Padraic Beirne grabbing a personal tally of 3 â 6. It was hard to keep tabs on a team like that, Crossmolina kept plugging away with Darragh Kelly, Adam Langan, Daniel Howley, Conor Caden, Edward Gough scoring well taken points and Niall Coggins and Thady Connor grabbed the goals. One thing about loserâs they kept trying to the final whistle. U8 Boys Blitz - You really did us proud; U8 Boys Blitz â Saturday 20th of June took place in St Josephâs Park Knockmore. The sun was shining and the wind was blowing and a lot of us came home very red after but I have to say I am one of the most proudest coaches of any of the boys teams, after seeing the way 11 of our U8 players played last Saturday in Knockmore. We played 7 a side games against 3 teams consecutively (Ardnaree, Moy Davits and Park) winning 2 games and losing one to Park. This meant we then got to the semi-final were we took on Knockmore. This was some game. The skill of both teams and the determination of our own boys won them a place in the final. We played Park again in the final but unfortunately it was not our day. I would like to say a big thank you to Kieran McDonald &Colm Reilly who helped out on the day. It meant a lot to me and the boys to have their experience and knowledge on the day. Also to all the supporters and the parents who sent some great sandwiches and goodies to keep the boys going. Thanks to you all; you all helped make the day enjoyable. Julie
