St Tiernans college captured the Connacht post primary title with a pulsating late scoring burst in extra time out scoring their opponents 7 points to 2 with points from Tony Carey Adam Foody Luke Kelly and three from Captain Oisin Deane to run out five point winners. After racing into a 2 – 7 to three goals interval lead with Goals from Oisin Langan and Liam Clancy. The Lacken Cross Boys kept fighting back with four goals in the second half the last one in injury time to send the contest in to extra time. In between Thomas Varaknona and Ethan Reilly had kept St Tiernans scored board ticking over with goals each at the final whistle they thought they had won only to discover the sides were level. Crossmolina were convincing winners over Ballina over 6 – 7 to 0 – 7 in this north Mayo U14 A final played in ideal conditions in Knockmore on Tuesday of last week. The Stephenites started the better side and had a couple of chances of goals were it not for some stout defending and vigilant goalkeeper by Patrick O’Malley who was on top of his game the score might be much different after Ben Thornton opened the scoring straight from the throw in the first two attacks for Crossmolina resulted in goals from Kobe McDonald penalty and fisted effort from Dylan Flynn from a McDonald Pass further goals from Adam Mills and Oisin Deane stretched the winners further ahead Jerome Nevin tacked on three points and Adam Mills and Oisin Deane replied with points each to leave the half time score 4 – 2 to 0 – 4. Crossmolina edged out Ballina by three points in a high scoring North Mayo U16 Championship in James Stephen Park on Tuesday last Crossmolina lead at the break by a point 3 – 3 to 0 – 11 with two goals from Oisin Deane and one from Kobe McDonald. Two further goals from Kobe McDonald and one from Joey Keane during the second half kept the host at bay despite the best efforts of Jerome Nevin who scored seven points and Sean Fitzpatrick who scored 1 – 6 and Crossmolina can thank their goalie Patrick O’Malley who made a couple of fine saves through the game.
